Lewiston Morning Tribune - July 30, 1956

      Leonard Profitt, 71, of Ahsahka, succumbed to cancer at 4:53 p.m. yesterday at St. Joseph's Hospital, where he had been a patient since July 25.

     He had been a resident of the Clearwater area since 1908, working as a farmer and woods worker until his retirement in 1952.

     Mr. Profitt was born in Wolfe County, Ky, April 9, 1885, and he married Maggie Senters there in 1908. They moved west to Sumpter, Ore., later that year and two years later moved again to Troy, Idaho, where he was employed by Potlatch Forests, Inc.

     Mr. Profitt farmed at Cavendish from 1910 to 1912 and then moved to Ahsahka, where he operated a farm on Gilbert Hill and worked in the woods until his retirement.

     He and his first wife were divorced in 1932 and Mr. Profitt married Lena Freund at Asotin in 1932.

     He was a member of the Ahsahka Community Church.

     He is survived by his wife, Lena, at Ahsahka; six sons, Lee, Virgil and Luther, all at Ahsahka, and Leonard of Kallspell, Mont. and Johnny and Earl, both of Clinton, Mont., three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Slaton of Las Vegas, Nev., and Mary and Virginia Profitt of Ahsahka; a brother, Luther Profitt, at Clarkston, and 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

     The body is at Gilbert's Chapel at Orofino.
